Eric Savitsky, MD

President and Founding Partner

Dr. Eric Savitsky is a co-founder of Pelagique, LLC and serves as its President. Dr. Savitsky has established himself as an innovator in the use of advanced technology for educating medical professionals and the general public. He has an outstanding record of leading multidisciplinary teams in applied research and product development. Recent efforts have generated several patent-pending health information delivery technologies.

Dr. Savitsky is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He serves as the Executive Director of the non-profit UCLA Center for International Medicine (CIM). He also serves on the Board of Directors of the UCLA Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT) and as the UCLA Emergency Medical Center's Director of Trauma Services and Education. In 2001, he founded the UCLA CIM, which is dedicated to improving global health through education, training, and technology. Dr. Savitsky has been recognized as an outstanding physician-educator and has been honored by a variety of international organizations. Most recently he was awarded the 2007 UCLA Award for Excellence in Education. He has written, traveled, and taught widely, presenting over 100 guest lectures worldwide and authoring over 80 journal articles, book chapters, and multimedia publications in the last ten years.

Eric received his Bachelors of Arts degree in Russian and Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Florida. He completed Emergency Medicine specialty training and served as Chief Resident at UCLA. He completed his Pediatric Emergency Medicine subspecialty training at the UCLA and UCLA/Oliveview Medical Centers.

 

Cheryl Hein, M.S.
Chief Technical Officer and Founding Partner

Cheryl Hein is an expert in technology program management and human factors engineering for the design of complex human-machine systems. She currently serves as the Administrative Director of the Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology (CASIT) at UCLA and has 30 years experience in product engineering, research, development, and manufacturing in the aerospace, automotive and photography industries. Her track record as a technical program manager includes work for Hughes, Raytheon, Boeing, General Motors, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the State of California, Delphi, OnStar, Polaroid, and Procter and Gamble. Ms. Hein was acknowledged by DARPA with the "Miles-per-Watt" award for  effective use of research funding.

Cheryl holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

 

Koren Shelton, MIA
Chief Operating Officer and Founding Partner

Koren Shelton has over twelve years of international and domestic project management experience spanning the fields of multimedia production, software development, and international program management. Ms Shelton has served as the Managing Director of UCLA’s CIM and guided its successful development. The Center has developed into a valued partner for organizations dedicated to improving global health such as the United Nations, USAID, Project Hope, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, and Direct Relief International. Ms Shelton has helped facilitate the successful completion of a wide range of digital multimedia medical training products incorporating digital media, haptic technology, motion sensors, and advanced 3-D medical imagery.
Prior to joining the UCLA team, Ms. Shelton was the project lead for New York-based International Computing, where she managed software production. Past experiences include production coordinator at HSI Productions and program manager for Bosnia, Angola, and Afghanistan with International Medical Corps.

Koren holds a Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University, and Bachelors Degree of Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College.

 

John Solomon, M.A.
Chief Creative Officer and Founding Partner

John Solomon has over 12 years of experience working with academia and private industry on a variety of films and television programs. Since 2001, Mr. Solomon has been an integral member of the UCLA CIM staff directing video production of and collaborating on storyline creation for a number of projects including: Landmine and ERW Safety Training (for the United Nations Mine Action Service), CBR: A Guide for Aid Workers, the Fundamentals of Trauma Care series (produced in English and Chinese), COPD (shot and produced in Armenian). On CIM’s behalf, he has traveled to Egypt and China where he has directed international production of trauma case coverage and conducted seminars on video production. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the UCLA Spotlight Award (1993, 2000), the Les Wasserman Award, and the Motion Picture Association of America Award. Mr. Solomon is also a sought after writer for film and television. He is a staff writer for Saturday Night Live and has written several feature length films.

John holds both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from UCLA.

 

Swaminatha V. Mahadevan, MD
Senior Medical Advisor and Founding Partner

Dr. S.V. Mahadevan is an Associate Professor of Surgery/Emergency Medicine (EM) at Stanford University’s School of Medicine in Palo Alto, CA. He is the Emergency Department Medical Director at Stanford University Medical Center and the Associate Chief of the Division of Emergency Medicine.  He also directs Stanford EM International and the International EM Fellowship at Stanford. In 2003, he was awarded the Council of Emergency Medicine Residency Director’s (CORD) National Faculty Teaching Award. His textbook, “An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine,” was awarded the 2006 American Medical Writer’s Association (AWMA) Book Award (Physician’s category). Dr. Mahadevan is a widely published author and sought after conference speaker.
 
Maha received his Bachelor of Science from UC Riverside and his Doctorate in Medicine from UCLA where he also completed his residency in Emergency Medicine and served as Chief Resident.

 

Scott S. Flor
Executive Producer

Scott S. Flor has over twenty years of international and domestic film production experience. He is exceptionally skilled in relationship management with clients, crews, unions, vendors, foreign production service companies, and all major advertising agencies and record labels. Prior to joining Pelagique, Mr. Flor was Executive Producer for Headquarters Films and Head of Production for Propaganda/Satellite Films, both award-winning feature film, commercial, and music video production companies.

Scott holds a Bachelor Degree in Communications from Boston College.
